U16 Songwriting Competition

As stated on the poster, this is a wonderful opportunity for students. Within the workshops, they will have the opportunity to work with me and other professional songwriters and musicians and develop their songwriting skills from all aspects. I will be looking to cover all the different facets of songwriting from Lyrics, Melody, Song Structure, Arrangements, Instrumentation, live performance, Microphone technique, preparation and vocal technique. For more advanced students, I will also cover areas such as recording and producing and copywriting.

From the competition side of things, they will have the opportunity to perform their own music in the prestigious Grey Lady Music Lounge to a captive audience with a professional engineer mixing the sound and this will be judged by myself and other leading music industry professionals. The prizes on offer will include a chance to perform at my Paul Dunton & Guests show, free recording time at a local music studio and vouchers to spend in local music shops. The winner of each competition night will also go forward to a Grand Final where they will compete for a chance to Open this year’s Local & Live Music Festival on the Pantiles which attracted 10,000 people in 2009 and was opened by the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Cllr Leonard Price and Greg Clark MP. This years event promises to be even bigger and better.
